Import requirements

Because the UK now sits outside EU free movement, each shipment clears customs on entry. With EU preferential origin documented under the EU-UK trade agreement, the customs duty on Champagne is zero; UK alcohol duty applies at £30.62 per litre of pure alcohol (about £2.76 per 0.75L bottle at 12% vol, with no sparkling premium since the 2023 reform) plus import VAT at 20%, unless the goods move in duty suspension into an approved excise warehouse. The UK buyer typically acts as importer of record with an EORI number, and needs AWRS approval to sell on to other UK businesses.
