Import requirements

As an EU member, Belgium imposes no customs clearance or import duty on French Champagne. Excise goods still move under duty suspension, with an electronic administrative document (e-AD) in the EMCS system accompanying the shipment until it is released for consumption. Belgium then applies excise of €256.32 per hectolitre on sparkling wine above 8.5% vol (about €1.92 per 0.75L bottle) alongside 21% VAT. To receive duty-suspended stock, the Belgian buyer holds a registered consignee authorisation from AGD&A (occasional buyers can use the temporary variant, limited to six shipments a year with a per-shipment guarantee) and files the report of receipt in EMCS within five working days of arrival.
