The Netherlands is a compact but affluent market with an outsized logistics role in Europe. Import requirements

Within the EU there is no customs clearance or import duty on French Champagne entering the Netherlands. Excise goods still move under duty suspension, with an electronic administrative document (e-AD) in the EMCS system accompanying the shipment until it is released for consumption. The Netherlands applies wine excise (accijns) of €95.69 per hectolitre, about €0.72 per 0.75L bottle, alongside 21% VAT; there has been no separate sparkling rate since 2017. To receive duty-suspended stock, the Dutch buyer holds a registered consignee permit from Douane (a temporary variant exists for occasional shipments) and files the report of receipt in EMCS; buyers re-dispatching stock onward within the EU need tax warehouse arrangements on top, which many Dutch logistics providers offer.
